A live demonstration of the new Dimensions feature in QuickBooks Enterprise Suite was conducted by Intuit’s David Smith with participation from AL Harlow, Walter, and Andrew of Hermann Pickles. This meeting confirmed how the new functionality can enhance product categorization and simplify product naming conventions going forward.
-
Product dimensions (e.g., Container Type, Unit Size, Brand, Lid Type, etc.) can now be assigned directly within QBO product records.
-
While summary reports in QBO remain limited in column flexibility, detailed reports can be filtered and grouped using dimensions — offering expanded reporting capabilities.
-
The team agreed to conduct a small-scale test applying one or two dimensions (likely Container Type and Unit Size) to a subset of products.
-
The objective is to evaluate the visibility of dimension data in reports and understand how the data syncs with SOS Inventory before applying broader changes.
-
Consensus was reached that product naming conventions can now be simplified, using the description field and removing the need to embed attributes that will be captured as dimensions.
Next steps include:
-
AL, Walter, and Andrew will meet separately to implement and test a few dimensions.
-
The outcome will guide a broader product catalog update.
-
Further coordination with SOS Inventory will follow to ensure seamless reporting integration across platforms.
